Santa Cruz wharf collapses during a repair project

On Monday, Santa Cruz Wharf in California collapsed into the ocean during a repair project. Previously this year the winter storms had damaged the end of the wharf due to which the Santa Cruz Municipal invested $4 million to repair the damages.

The section of the wharf that had collapsed was to be closed until January due to ongoing construction. This incident caused large amounts of debris, including hazardous materials into the ocean. This incident sent 2 victims into the ocean who were later rescued by the Santa Cruz Fire Department, one of them floated himself, and according to the fire department there were no injuries caused this time.

The local police and fire department officials stated, “The wharf will remain closed until further notice” The department also urged the locals to stay cautious, “Due to life-threatening ocean conditions, please avoid all coastal areas, especially rocks and cliffs and do not enter the water and do not cross the flooded street”
