Seattle, February 7, 2024: A Japan Airlines (JAL) aircraft clipped a Delta Airlines plane during taxiing operations at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday morning.
As per the airport authorities, Japan Airlines Flight 6 68’s right wing made contact with the tail section of Delta Airlines Flight 1921 which was parked for de-icing. This accident took place around 10:17 A.M. local time.

The JAL Boeing 787 had arrived from Tokyo’s Narita International Airport with 172 passengers and 13 crew members on board. Meanwhile, the Delta Boeing 73 BB7 was preparing for departure to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, carrying 142 passengers.
No injuries were reported among passengers or crew members on either aircraft. All passengers were safely deplaned and transported back to the terminal. Response teams worked swiftly to move the aircraft off the taxiway, minimizing disruption to airport operations.
Jason Chan, a passenger on the Delta flight, described the impact as a slight “jiggle” and said the situation felt “surreal.” However, passengers remained calm before being bused back to the terminal.
Japan Airlines later confirmed that its right wingtip made contact with the Delta plane’s tail. Delta Airlines also acknowledged the incident, stating that their aircraft was stationary during deicing when the JAL plane’s wingtip struck it.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident. Despite the collision, airport operations remained largely unaffected.
