February 15: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Friday that while different nations may interpret international rules in various ways, there is a shared consensus on maintaining an international system centered around the United Nations. He underscored the importance of upholding fundamental norms of international relations based on the UN Charter’s principles and objectives.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these remarks during the “China in the World” event at the ongoing Munich Security Conference.
Addressing concerns about the current challenges to the international order and the risk of “double standards” in applying global rules, Wang stated that China has thrived under the existing system and remains a beneficiary of it.
“Our priority should be to guide the development of this order in a more equitable and just direction, in line with the aspirations of the majority of countries,” he asserted.
Wang highlighted China’s awareness of its international responsibilities and its willingness to contribute more public goods to the global community. He pointed to China’s recent global initiatives as a call for international cooperation to address pressing challenges in development, security, and governance.
Furthermore, Wang reiterated China’s vision of building a “community with a shared future for mankind,” a concept that has gained recognition and support worldwide. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to advancing these global initiatives and playing a constructive role in strengthening international cooperation.
