
A mass shooting occurred at the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, taking the life of a teacher, a teenage student, and a 15-year-old female shooter, identified as Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow. on December 16, 2024.
The shooting took place in a school’s study hall which accommodates around 390 students. A second-grade student promptly called 911 reporting the incident. Police arrived within four minutes, whereupon finding the shooter had shot herself. Two of the six injured are in critical condition, while the others had non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are investigating the motive behind the shooting. The shooter’s family is cooperating with the police in this case. A manifesto purportedly written by Rupnow, entitled “War Against Humanity,” describing her toxic and abusive relationship with her parents, has come to light; police have not yet authenticated it.
The school community was shocked by the tragedy. Pastor Chris Dolson said one of the killed was a substitute teacher, who was covering for an absent teacher who was out. The school has requested prayers from the community and was provided with a reunification center for parents and guardians.
President Joe Biden and other authorities expressed their agony and called for action on gun control. This incident has stirred conversations about gun violence and school safety in the United States. The school was declared clear of any further threats, and all remaining students have now been reunited with their families. Officials are debating when to reopen due to the community’s grieving process.
