El-Fasher, Darfur – May 1, 2025
Sudan’s paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has killed at least 165 civilians in 10 days while attacking El-Fasher, the last major city in Darfur that has not yet fallen under their control.
The RSF, which has been fighting the regular army since April 2023, fired over 750 mortar shells and artillery rounds at the city. The city’s volunteer resistance committee confirmed the death toll with the help of local health facilities. The attacks have hit residential areas, markets, and displacement camps, causing what the committee called a “bloody massacre.”

The fighting has become more intense in recent weeks as the RSF tries to recover from losing Khartoum, the capital, last month.
With the army controlling the center, east, and north of the country, and the RSF in control of nearly all of Darfur and parts of the south, the country has been divided in two.
Famine has been declared in five areas of Sudan, including three displacement camps near El-Fasher, which have been key areas of the recent fighting.
