Sydney Synagogue vandalized with swastikas after graffiti in Allawah

Jan 12 Sunday, 2025: A second Sydney synagogue with swastikas as an attack on the Jewish communities. The incident occurred at the Newtown synagogue in Sydney’s inner west.

The synagogue located in Newtown, Sydney has been spray painted with red swastikas across its front wall. The police kept on investigating the incident and attended the scene on Saturday morning.

According to reports, The NSW Premier, Chris Minns denounced the acts as “monstrous” and an escalation in anti-Semitic crime in the state. “The NSW Police Force takes hate crimes seriously, “a statement read. He has also announced the extension of a one-off grant of $340,000 toward enhanced temporary security and urged anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.

The vandalism is part of a trail of anti-Semitic incidents in Sydney, including a similar attack on the Southern Sydney Synagogue in Allawah the previous day. Police are investigating the offensive graffiti in Allawah.

The Newtown synagogue incident involved red swastikas spray-painted across the front wall of the synagogue and an attempted arson attack using a clear liquid. The Southern Sydney Synagogue in Allawah was defaced with swastikas and the words “Hitler on top” on Friday morning.


Now counter-terrorism police take over the investigation of the anti-Semitic incidents with comments by NSW police commissioner Karen Webb saying the using of accelerants in Newtown “takes the levels of criminality to another notch.” Now counter-terrorism police have taken over the investigation of this vandalisation case as the police commissioner and state government call on the public to help catch the perpetrators.
