Jan 9, Thursday, 2025: The Sunset Fire ignited in the Hollywood Hills on Wednesday evening. The fire quickly spread to about 50 acres and triggered mandatory evacuation orders. More than 100,00 residents in Los Angeles have been evacuated due to growing fires driven by excessive winds since Tuesday.

The fire started around 6.04 p.m. on Wednesday at the 2300 block of Solar Drive in the Hollywood Hills. The inferno burned about 50 acres and spread between Runyon Canyon and Wattles Park. Orders for mandatory evacuation were given for areas from Laurel Canyon Boulevard on the west to the 101 Freeway on the east, and Mulholland Drive on the north to Hollywood Boulevard on the south. Hollywood High School is serving as an evacuation site.

The fire streak started in the Pacific Palisades area on Tuesday morning and sent hundreds of residents fleeing. Five people have died, and many local businesses have been burnt down. This has made it the most destructive fire ever in Los Angeles County. Evacuation has been announced for Altadena and Pasadena near Eaton Canyon after a fast-moving fire ignited at 6.23 p.m. Tuesday.

Lidia Fire Broke out after 2 p.m. Wednesday off Soledad Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest. It was milder than the others, with containment at double digits. The cause is under investigation.

Woodley fire was reported near North Woodley Avenue and the Sepulveda Basin briefly after 6 a.m. Wednesday. It posed a threat of crossing Burbank Boulevard, and crews are dedicatedly working to contain it. A vegetation fire was also reported in Coachella South at 3:25 a.m., contained to 15 acres. The National Weather Service says strong winds and critical fire weather will persist until at least Friday evening.
