A remarkable eye surgery marathon took place recently at Pholosong Regional Hospital in South Africa, where over 100 people had their vision restored. The three-day event focused on performing cataract surgeries to help those who had been suffering from impaired sight. Patients were brought into the operating theater continuously as doctors and medical staff worked tirelessly to address the backlog of cataract cases in the region.
Gladys Khoza, one of the beneficiaries, regained her sight after successful surgery during the marathon. The event saw a total of 133 free surgeries provided to participants, greatly improving their quality of life. Health officials revealed that the surgery marathon aimed not only to treat individuals but also to reduce the overall number of cataract patients waiting for surgery.
This initiative is part of South Africa’s broader health efforts to combat preventable blindness among its citizens. With increasing support and resources dedicated to eye care, the community looks forward to enhancing healthcare access and outcomes.
