February 17, Seoul, South Korea: The South Korean entertainment industry was rocked by the sudden death of actress Kim Sae Ron, who was found deceased at her apartment in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on Sunday. The 24-year-old actress, who was last seen in Netflix’s web show Bloodhounds in 2023, was discovered by a friend who arrived at her apartment to meet her. Upon finding her body, the friend immediately contacted the authorities. While the cause of her death is still under investigation, police have stated that there is no indication of criminal activity at this time.

Kim Sae Ron began her career as a child actor, making her debut in A Brand New Life (2009), directed by Ounie Lecomte. However, it was her role in the 2010 neo-noir action thriller The Man from Nowhere, where she starred alongside South Korean actor Won Bin, that solidified her place in the public eye. The film was the highest-grossing South Korean movie of that year. Over the years, Kim continued to build her career with notable roles in films like I Am a Dad (2011), Listen to My Heart (2011), and The Neighbor (2012). By 2015, Kim began taking on leading roles in projects such as Snowy Road (2015), Secret Healer (2016), The Villagers (2018), Leverage (2019), and The Great Shaman Ga Doo-shim (2021).

However, Kim’s career took a sharp downturn in 2022 following a drunk driving incident in Seoul. Kim crashed into an electrical transformer while under the influence of alcohol, leading to her arrest and the revocation of her driver’s license. The incident sparked significant backlash, as drunk driving is widely condemned in South Korean society. Kim faced severe social media trolling and public criticism, which significantly hindered her career, preventing her from securing new acting roles.

Sae Ron’s sudden passing on February 16, 2025, has left the nation in shock, and tributes have poured in from fellow celebrities and industry colleagues. At the mortuary at Asan Medical Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul, many came to pay their respects. Among the mourners was Won Bin, who starred alongside Kim in The Man from Nowhere and sent a wreath in her honor. He was joined by his wife, actress Lee Na Young, as well as other notable figures from the entertainment world, including K-pop idol Cha Eunwoo, Ma Dong Seok, Gong Myung, IU, Seo Ye Ji, and members of the band FT Island. Executives from Fantagio, the agency where Kim had been signed for seven years, also paid their respects, acknowledging the significant impact she had on the agency and the industry.

Kim Sae Ron shared a special bond with the late Moonbin, a member of the K-pop group ASTRO, who tragically passed away by suicide in April 2023. She also shared a picture on his Birthday recently as an Instagram story. The two worked together under the same agency, S.M. Entertainment, and starred in the 2015 web series To Be Continued, which featured members of ASTRO.

Kim Sae Ron’s funeral will be held on February 19, 2025, at 6:20 a.m. in a private ceremony, as per the wishes of her family. The entertainment industry and fans alike mourn the loss of a promising young talent whose career was marked by both great success and significant personal struggles.
