Saudi Arabia has officially declared that the first day of Eid Al Fitr will be observed on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. This announcement comes after the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted, marking the end of Ramadan on its 29th day. The Kingdom will observe a public holiday lasting four days for all employees.
This decision is in harmony with other Gulf countries, where the sighting of the moon is critical in determining the start of Eid celebrations. In the UAE, the moon-sighting committee will examine the Shawwal crescent this evening to confirm the exact commencement of Eid Al Fitr.
Several Gulf cities are gearing up for Eid festivities with the following initiatives:
- Dubai: Announced Eid prayer timings across 900 mosques.
- Sharjah: Offering free parking for three days to support festive activities.
- Abu Dhabi: Providing four days of free parking and temporarily suspending Darb toll charges to ease residents’ celebrations.
As Eid approaches, families and communities are busy finalizing their plans, which include visits to beaches and various festive events throughout the region.
