According to the Israeli army, two soldiers were killed and at least six others were hurt during fighting in the southern part of the Gaza Strip on Thursday.
One of the soldiers who died is identified as Sergeant Yishai Elyakim Urbach. He was 20 years old and from Zikhron Ya’akov. He served in the Combat Engineering Corps. The other soldier was Staff Sergeant Yam Frid, 21 years old and from Sal’it. He was part of the Golani Brigade’s special unit.
The army said the first attack happened in the Jenina neighborhood of Rafah. Hamas fighters fired a rocket at a building where Israeli soldiers were staying. The building was damaged and partly collapsed. Sergeant Urbach was killed, and two other soldiers were hurt—one seriously and one moderately.
The second attack took place two hours later in the same area. A strong bomb hit an armored army vehicle. Staff Sergeant Frid was killed, and four other soldiers were hurt. Three of them were badly injured.
