In a disturbing human trafficking case, seven Nepali women were found to have been sent to Hong Kong using fake Indian identification. The involvement of two men, Dipesh Gurung (41) from Toribari, Darjeeling, and Japan Gurung (61) from Makalu Rural Municipality-3 in Sankhuwasabha, has been confirmed through their arrest. Indian police have also verified that all seven women originate from Sankhuwasabha.
This case has raised serious concerns about cross-border trafficking and the use of false documents to facilitate illegal migration. Authorities are investigating how the fake Indian IDs were procured and the networks behind this trafficking operation. The victims were exploited through these fabricated IDs to travel to Hong Kong, where they likely faced exploitation in harsh conditions.
The arrests highlight ongoing challenges in combating human trafficking in South Asia and emphasize the need for:
- rigorous enforcement of laws against trafficking
- awareness campaigns to protect vulnerable populations
Officials are now working to secure the safe return of the trafficked women and to dismantle the trafficking ring.
This incident is a grim reminder of the human cost behind illegal migration and the continuing fight against exploitation in the region.
