
Nepal has launched the groundbreaking WHO/UNICEF Care for Child Development (CCD) course, the first of its kind in the WHO South-East Asia Region. This program is designed to equip health workers with essential skills to nurture the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children aged 0 to 3 years. The course emphasizes the importance of responsive caregiving and early learning through everyday interactions.
Key Features of the CCD Course
- Developed by WHO and UNICEF in 2012
- Aligned with Nepal’s National Strategy for Early Childhood Development
- Focus on cost-effective actions such as brain stimulation, play, communication, and responsive feeding
- Integrates child development knowledge into routine health care
Implementation and Training
In May 2025, responding to the Nepalese government’s request, WHO facilitated a comprehensive five-day training for 16 health professionals including pediatricians and public health experts. These trained facilitators have started to extend training efforts across six provinces, ensuring broad reach and impact.
