Central Pakistan experienced a series of powerful earthquakes over the last 24 hours, with magnitudes ranging from 4.5 to 5.5. The strongest quake, measuring 5.5 magnitude, struck early Sunday morning and was reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The epicenter was located approximately 149 kilometers west of Multan city. Authorities confirmed that there have been no immediate reports of casualties or major structural damages despite the tremors.
Earlier in the day, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake was also recorded in the region. Additionally, a moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 followed, marking the second quake in 12 hours. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the shallow depth and location of these quakes, creating concerns due to Pakistan’s location on several major fault lines.
Local residents reported feeling the earth shake but reassured authorities that there was no significant destruction. Emergency services remain on alert to respond if needed. Officials continue to monitor seismic activity closely, urging citizens to stay cautious.
This recent seismic activity underscores the ongoing risk of earthquakes in Pakistan, a country prone to such natural events due to its complex geological settings.
