March 11, Seoul: In the wake of controversial claims made by the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute, actor Kim Soo-hyun and his agency, Gold Medalist, have firmly denied allegations of a past relationship with the late actor Kim Sae-ron. The accusations, which also implicated the agency in Sae-ron’s financial struggles, have been dismissed as “baseless and malicious.”
The Allegations
On March 10, Garosero Research Institute, run by former MBC reporter Kim Se-yi, uploaded a video featuring a statement from Kim Sae-ron’s aunt. The video alleged that Kim Soo-hyun had been in a six-year relationship with Sae-ron but distanced himself following her 2022 DUI case. It further accused Gold Medalist of contributing to Sae-ron’s financial difficulties, which reportedly exacerbated her struggles.
Gold Medalist’s Response
In a strongly worded press statement, Gold Medalist refuted the claims, calling them “completely unfounded and defamatory.” The agency emphasized that it would not tolerate such accusations against Kim Soo-hyun and warned of legal action against those spreading false information.
Garosero’s Dismissive Reply
Garosero Research Institute responded dismissively to Gold Medalist’s legal threats, mocking Kim Soo-hyun’s popularity and questioning his ability to take legal action. The channel stated, “It seems Kim Soo-hyun doesn’t know who Kim Se-yi from Garosero Research Institute is, haha. Legal action? Even the so-called world star BTS once said they would take ‘legal action’ against Garosero~ How did that turn out? Everyone enlisted in the army. But now, Kim Soo-hyun, who’s only popular in China, is taking legal action?”
Garosero further defended its claims, asserting that the information came directly from Sae-ron’s family. The channel challenged Gold Medalist to take legal action against the family as well, stating, “Our Garosero didn’t broadcast from just anywhere… We got materials and interviews directly from Kim Sae-ron’s family! Why not try the ‘legal action’ stunt on the family, too? Haha.”
Kim Sae-ron’s Tragic Passing
Kim Sae-ron, known for her roles in dramas like Bloodhounds and the film The Man from Nowhere, was found dead in her home on February 16. According to police reports, she was discovered by a friend who had been unable to reach her. Authorities have stated that there were no immediate signs of foul play, but investigations into the circumstances of her death are ongoing.
A Controversial Backdrop
The allegations against Kim Soo-hyun and Gold Medalist have sparked widespread debate, with fans and netizens divided over the credibility of the claims. While some have expressed sympathy for Sae-ron’s family, others have criticized the Garosero Research Institute for exploiting her tragic passing for sensationalism.
What’s Next?
As the controversy unfolded, Kim Soo-hyun and the Gold Medalist remained steadfast in their denial of the allegations. The agency’s threat of legal action underscores its commitment to protecting its artists’ reputations. Meanwhile, Garosero Research Institute continues to stand by its claims, setting the stage for a potential legal battle.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by public figures in navigating personal and professional controversies, especially in the age of social media and unverified claims. As the investigation into Kim Sae-ron’s death continues, the focus remains on honoring her legacy while addressing the allegations with transparency and accountability.
