New Delhi, 21 Feb 2025:
K. Rammohan Naidu Civil Aviation Minister of India launched the Electronic Personnel License (EPL) for flight crew on Thursday, making India only the second country in the world after China to implement this cutting-edge system.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) introduced EPL to streamline licensing, enhance transparency, and boost efficiency, ensuring a seamless experience for pilots.
“The launch of EPL is a major step not just for aviation but for digitalization across sectors,” Naidu said, highlighting that the initiative would reduce paperwork, enhance security, and improve operational efficiency.
As India’s aviation sector soars, the country is expected to require at least 20,000 new pilots in the coming years to meet the growing demand for air travel. Naidu emphasized that India, one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, is preparing for 50 new airports within five years and 120 new domestic routes over the next decade.
“This digital shift is crucial in preparing for the future of Indian aviation,” Naidu added, underscoring the role of technology-driven solutions like digital twin systems to improve real-time decision-making at airports.
Pilots have welcomed the move, seeing EPL as a game-changer. “This will streamline processes, eliminate paperwork delays, and allow pilots to focus on safe and efficient travel,” a senior airline pilot said.
