
Feb 6, Thursday, Italy: A helicopter crash in northern Italy has led to the death of 3 people namely Cured meats heir Lorenzo Revagnati, 41 who visited the medieval estate, with 2 pilots.
Lorenzo Rovagnati was the 42-year-old CEO and heir of the Rovagnati cured meats empire, known for its Gran Biscotto cooked prosciutto and salamis.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the helicopter, an AgustaWestland A109, plunged into the grounds of Castelguelfo di Noceto, a medieval castle owned by the Rovagnati family, near Parma. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, with officials considering possible technical or human error, as well as poor visibility due to dense fog and darkness.
The incident has been described as a “terrible tragedy” by local officials, with the mayor of Noceto expressing shock and sadness at the loss of life.
The two pilots on board, identified as Flavio Massa, 59, and Leonardo Italiani, 30, also lost their lives in the crash. Lorenzo Rovagnati is married with two children and his wife was pregnant with their third child at the time of the incident.
The Rovagnati family’s company is a significant producer of cured meats in Italy, with an annual turnover of over 310 million euros in 2023. An investigation is underway, with the Parma public prosecutor’s office seizing the flight recorder to determine the cause of the crash.
