March 21, South Korea: Disney+ has confirmed the postponement of its new Korean series “Knock Off,” previously scheduled to air in April. This is amidst increasing controversies against the lead actor, Kim Soo-hyun. A spokesperson for Disney+ Korea stated on March 21, “After careful consideration, we have decided to delay the release of ‘Knock Off.'”
“Knock Off” is the tale of Kim Sung-joon, acted by Kim Soo-Hyun, who goes through a dramatic transformation with the 1997 Asian financial crisis, transforming him from a typical office worker to the king of the world’s counterfeit market. Jo Bo-ah acts as Song Hye-jung, Sung-joon’s ex-girlfriend and special judicial officer. Production for the first season has been completed, and the series was supposed to air as early as April.
The postponement is due to allegations about Kim Soo-hyun’s past relationship with late actress Kim Sae-ron. Reports indicate that Kim Soo-hyun had dated Kim Sae-ron when she was underage, leading to widespread outrage from the public. Following this, different brands like Prada and Dinto have withdrawn their endorsement deals with the actor.
Kim Soo-hyun’s talent agency, Gold Medalist, has denied such allegations, stating that the two were not in a relationship when Kim Sae-ron was still a minor. The agency also filed criminal charges concerning an offensive photo uploaded on social media by Kim Sae-ron’s family.
The scandal has also affected Kim Soo-hyun’s career. He has lost his title of South Korea’s best-paid actor to Park Hyung-sik because of the scandal of underage dating. His co-stars, Jung Hae-in and Im Si-wan, have also been under public pressure to distance themselves from him, with fans asking them to unfollow Kim Soo-hyun on social media to protect their reputations.
The postponement of the release of “Knock Off” follows the broader influence of the scandal on ongoing and upcoming projects involving Kim Soo-hyun. The platform did not provide an updated release schedule for the program, which means that the issue is constantly reassessed. The report shows how sensitive the entertainment industry is to public perception and how controversies within one’s life can influence one’s work.
As events continue to unfold, stakeholders and fans alike await a progress report on the status of “Knock Off” and Kim Soo-hyun’s involvement in the project. Keep Reading Questiqa.com for more news.
