Moscow, Russia – February 4, 2025:
A deadly bombing at a luxury residential complex in Moscow killed two people, including Armen Sargsyan, a known figure with ties to Russian paramilitary groups. The explosion occurred at the Alyie Parusa complex as a man with bodyguards entered the lobby.
Ivan Prikhodko, the Russian-installed mayor of Horlivka in eastern Ukraine, confirmed Sargasyan’s death, calling the incident a “terrorist attack.” Sargsyan was the founder of the “Arbat” unit, a volunteer force reportedly linked to Wagner Group veterans, according to Kommersant.
In December, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) labeled Sargsyan a “crime boss” in the Russian-occupied Donetsk region. He was accused of aiding illegal armed groups. Ukraine has not commented on his killing.
The assassination coincided with a wave of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure. Russian air defense units intercepted 70 Ukrainian drones over the Volgograd region, while 38 Russian drones were reportedly downed by Ukraine. The strikes targeted key energy facilities, including a Lukoil refinery producing 300,000 barrels of oil daily, sparking fires and disrupting transportation.
Russia condemned the attacks as acts of terrorism, claiming Ukraine aimed to weaken Moscow’s war efforts. The bombing at Alyie Parusa also follows the 2021 assassination of organized crime boss Ali Heydarov in the same complex.
