The Witcher franchise is set to expand its legacy with a thrilling new entry, bringing Ciri to the forefront as the protagonist. The recently released six-minute-long cinematic trailer shows a pretty cool plot where Ciri, now a full-fledged witcher, takes on a dangerous contract in a remote village plagued for generations by a monster demanding human sacrifices. This reveal has not only stirred excitement among fans but also substantiated a major canon development from The Witcher 3 about Ciri surviving her journey and opting to become a witcher instead of perishing or ruling the Nilfgaard Empire.
Game director Sebastian Kalemba shared glimpses into this direction as the team’s curiosity about Ciri’s character went deeper. It seemed the most natural, he said, furthering their desire to examine the real essence of what it means to be a witcher. Ciri’s journey will now be seen through her eyes, one that defies society with pressing moral dilemmas in a gray, gritty world.
A pre-rendered cinematic show, made with Unreal Engine 5 and some undisclosed Nvidia GPU, makes for a splendid visual treat. The trailer also introduced Ciri’s evolved abilities like her advanced magic powers and a new chain weapon, showcasing the dense, intense world in which Ciri lives: from morally gray lands where her tough decisions become unavoidable to the villagers’ prejudices towards her, ultimately testing her.
