
January 3, Friday: China raised sanctions on 28 US defense companies for National Security. On Thursday, Beijing announced the change in the trade relations between the United States and China, announcing the control measures for the exports which targeted 28 US defense companies.
The group of 28 companies consists of defense contractors which also includes Lockheed Martin which is one of the well-known defense manufacturers and five of its subsidiaries, one of those in Rautheon and the other one being Boeing and many other firms. Chinese companies are not allowed to sell the dual-use goods and items that they used to do earlier, where the items are under military and civilian use.
In the official announcement, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said, the sanctions were put in place to preserve the country’s national security and interests and to follow the international obligations. These sanctions include the ban on importing and exporting goods to and from China, restrictions due to which this also revoked the residents of the company executives. These Executives are also not allowed to travel to China.
The Ministry said that 10 of these companies also have been involved in business with Taiwan and stated that they are, “safeguarding national sovereignty, security and develop interests”. In December 2024, US lawmakers passed three bills that addressed China’s involvement in the US Fenatyl Crisis.
The legislation held China’s ruling Communist Party responsible for, “directly contributing to the fentanyl crisis by subsidizing precursor chemicals” which also included the bill sponsors.
