It reflects the delight of consumers who can now purchase affordable red fruit delights. Chinese middle class can savor the taste of cherries without feeling guilty about the cost.
Many citizens had previously stopped eating costly cherries amid China’s consumption downgrade as shrinking incomes and dimming job prospects took over.
Cherries were once considered a luxury item in China, with prices often above 100 yuan (US413.75) per 500 grams. This has significantly shifted in recent months after the record-breaking harvest in Chile.
Prices fell to under one third of their original level. Cherries are now being purchased at just 30 yuan sparking a cherry spree in China among fruit lovers. This price range has enriched the Lunar New Year Holiday for the Chinese.
