
Dec 23, Monday Belfast: Belfast City Airport reopened again on Monday after its runway was shut down when a plane was damaged in a “hard landing.” The Aer Lingus aircraft had to be recovered from the runway after the emergency incident which began a about 16:00 GMT on Sunday.
The plane was operated by Emerald Airlines for Aer Lingus and had traveled from Edinburgh to Belfast. The plane was with four crew and no passengers on board. Post that number of flights were canceled on Monday morning. Routes including Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, and London City airports were affected due to the cancelation. The pictures show the plane’s nose wheel collapsed during landing but no injuries were reported among the crew.
The incident is being investigated by the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) which sent a team of inspectors to the scene.
An airport spokesperson said: “Passengers impacted by yesterday’s runway closure, or those due to travel today should check the status of their flight with the airline before making their way to the airport.” After a long night of struggle for the workers, the plane was moved off the runway in the morning.
