The highly anticipated Asia Cup 2025 cricket tournament is likely to commence on September 10, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerging as the probable host venue. This decision comes amid ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, raising heightened security concerns.
Despite these challenges, both nations are expected to participate and face each other in the tournament. The Asia Cup will feature six teams competing in the T20 format. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) plans to release the official schedule in early July.
Notably, two of India’s star players, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, will not take part as they retired from T20 internationals after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Indian team’s participation is still awaiting final government approval due to the sensitive security environment.
The choice of a neutral venue aims to:
- Ensure the safety of all teams
- Foster sporting ties amid challenging diplomatic relations
The upcoming Asia Cup promises intense cricketing action and stands as an important event for regional sports diplomacy.
