
December 20, Friday: Russia strikes Portuguese embassy in Kyiv says their Foreign Minister. A statement was released by the Portugal Foreign Ministry on Friday.”The attack in Kyiv on Friday morning caused collateral damage to several diplomatic missions and the Portuguese Embassy” the ministry posted on X. Portugal also added that it would take charge of a formal protest with the affairs of the Russian Embassy. “It is absolutely unacceptable that any attack should target or have an impact on diplomatic premises” the ministry said.
Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration wrote a separate post on telegram saying “probably used ballistic missiles” He also said the debris which fell from the missiles was recorded in five different districts and also hit two office buildings which went through sustainable damage, in which the roof of both the buildings was caught on fire.
The Kyiv Mayor said that one person died due to the Russian attack in the Ukrainian Capital, and 9 people sustained major injuries. Ukraine’s historic St. Nicholas Church was damaged immensely during the strikes, with some of glass shattering hits, the church was located at the central part of the city and it is said to be 300 meters away from the Portuguese Emabassy. A meeting was scheduled between the European Union President António Costa and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the same day of the attack, in which Antonio raised his support for Ukraine, through a post on X. Which also highlights the fact of Portugal being a part of Europe.
