Dec 19, Thursday UK: Almost 60,000 homes all over Hampshire are without water due to a “technical issue” at the Southern Water supply works. Houses in Southampton, Romsey, Eastleigh, Totton, and parts of the New Forest have been affected due to the water outage. More than 30 schools remain closed on Thursday.
Tankers were sent on Wednesday to supply water to Southampton General Hospital. Southern. Water said it has fixed the issue and hopes to restore all supplies to customers by the weekend. The supplies include bottled water stations in Marchwood, Eastleigh, and Totton.
Apart from this, a major upheaval for customers came when Ofwat announced the average water bill would rise by an average of £86 from next year in England and Wales. Although Southern has apologized for the “ongoing disruption” the problem won’t be fully fixed until the weekend.
A spokesperson said: “If these works proceed to our current plan, customers should start to see supplies restored during tomorrow, but some areas may take longer. We are working towards all customers being back in supply by the weekend.” Bottled water is being delivered to vulnerable customers and bottling stations are being set up, the company said.
