Abu Dhabi is set to transform its public transportation landscape with the introduction of driverless pods by the end of 2025. This major step forward was announced by the Abu Dhabi transport chief during the Global Rail conference.
These autonomous pods, called Urbanloop, are designed to carry up to eight passengers, accommodating four seated and four standing. The initiative offers a glimpse into the future of urban mobility, focusing on efficiency, safety, and eco-friendliness within the city.
The Urbanloop pods will operate autonomously, promoting safer, more streamlined travel and supporting Abu Dhabi’s vision for smart, technology-driven transportation solutions.
This launch builds on the successful operation of Abu Dhabi’s robo-taxis, which currently deploy 44 autonomous vehicles serving areas such as Yas Island, Saadiyat, and Masdar City. Together, these advancements reflect Abu Dhabi’s strong commitment to:
- Smart city innovation
- Improved urban mobility
- Reduction of carbon emissions
