Vatsala, Asia’s oldest female elephant, has passed away at the Panna Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, India. She was over 100 years old and was warmly known as ‘Dadi Maa’ and ‘Nani Maa’ during her lifetime. Originating from Kerala, Vatsala lived a remarkable life that extended to Madhya Pradesh.
In recent months, Vatsala suffered from injuries to the nails on her front legs, which severely impacted her mobility, making it difficult for her to stand. Despite dedicated care, she peacefully passed away on Tuesday in the Hinouta range of the reserve.
