April 8, Japan: Japanese actress Ryoko Hirosue was reportedly arrested early Tuesday following an alleged assault on a nurse at a hospital in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The incident unfolded after the 43-year-old star was involved in a car accident and subsequently taken to a hospital, according to a statement issued by her talent agency, R.H Co., Ltd.
In the official release, the agency confirmed that Hirosue had been driving her own vehicle when the accident occurred. After being transported to the hospital for treatment, she reportedly experienced a state of panic, during which a medical staff member sustained injuries. “We deeply apologize for the distress caused to the injured party and everyone concerned,” the agency said, adding that Hirosue would be suspending all entertainment activities for the time being. The agency also noted that further details would not be shared while investigations are ongoing.
Local authorities in Shizuoka later confirmed the arrest of a woman on suspicion of injuring a nurse at a hospital in Shimada City. The suspect, who identified herself as Ryoko Hirosue, 44, allegedly kicked a 37-year-old nurse and scratched her arm around 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday. The nurse reportedly sustained minor injuries.
The altercation occurred several hours after a car crash involving a vehicle driven by the actress. At approximately 6:50 p.m. on Monday, Hirosue’s car reportedly rear-ended a large trailer on the Shin-Tomei Expressway in Kakegawa City. A man, believed to be her manager, was also present in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The incident has gained widespread attention not only in Japan but also across international media. On Chinese social media platform Sina Weibo, the hashtag #HirosueUnderArrest quickly began trending, amassing over 15 million views by Tuesday afternoon.
Hirosue, a beloved figure in Japanese entertainment, first rose to stardom in the 1990s as a teen idol. She gained fame for her roles in hit television series such as Beach Boys and acclaimed films including Departures and Wasabi. Her career spans decades, earning her both critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base.
As investigations continue, fans and the public await further updates on the situation and the outcome of the legal proceedings.
