
February 7, China: President Xi Jinping met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (ROK), Woo Won-shik, at the Sun Island Hotel in Harbin. The meeting coincided with the opening ceremony of the Ninth Asian Winter Games.
President Xi highlighted the progress in China-ROK relations over the past three decades, emphasizing their contributions to regional peace and development. He reaffirmed China’s stable policy toward the ROK and stressed the importance of collaboration amid rising international and regional uncertainties. Xi proposed organizing commemorative activities for the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the ROK’s liberation. He also advocated for deepening economic and trade relations, enhancing people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and supporting each other’s hosting of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meetings in the coming years.
Speaker Woo acknowledged the significant role of ROK-China cooperation in their respective developments and affirmed that friendship with China remains a core element of the ROK’s foreign policy. He expressed a desire to elevate bilateral relations, strengthen economic and trade cooperation, ensure the stability of global industrial and supply chains, expand personnel exchanges, and jointly commemorate the 80th anniversary of the World Anti-Fascist War. Woo also called for mutual support in hosting the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Meetings.
Wang Yi, China’s top diplomat, attended the meeting.
