Gaza, February 4, 2025: UN Gives Over 30,000 Identity Bracelets to Children in Gaza to Avoid Separation of Families Amid Displacement of Thousands Across Region. These areas fall under an initiative led by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and humanitarian partners to expand life-saving aid operations in all areas of the country.
According to UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, over 545,000 individuals have relocated from southern Gaza to northern Gaza within the past week, while 36,000 have journeyed south. The identity bracelets, designated for children under the age of four, safeguard these young individuals from being separated from their caregivers; reports indicate that more than 250 children have already become disconnected from their guardians during these displacement events.
Besides distributing bracelets, the UN has set up temporary shelters in Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahiya, and Jabalya that can house at least 5,000 each. In parallel, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees warns that approximately 280,000 school-age children have signed up for e-learning programs, as continued disruptions prevent them from attending school.
Beyond Gaza, Dujarric voiced concerns over Israeli military actions in the West Bank, particularly in Jenin and Tulkarm, where “lethal, war-like tactics” have been deployed. The destruction of 20 residential buildings has displaced at least 15 families, and ongoing raids in El Far’a Refugee Camp have worsened the crisis.
The violence continues to escalate, with 39 Palestinians killed in the West Bank since January 21. Since October 2023, Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in over 47,500 Palestinian deaths, while more than 900 have been killed in the West Bank in attacks by Israeli forces and settlers.
